Do you know your skin type? If not, we've got you covered. At our Boston spa, you can just book a customized facial we call, "Let the Experts Decide" and your Aesthetician will choose the right spa facial for your skin type.
That said, determining your skin type is essential for selecting appropriate skincare products and makeup at home and it helps you to choose the right facial services for your skin. Here are the common skin types and how to identify them:
Normal Skin: Normal skin typically has balanced oil production, few imperfections, and is neither too dry nor too oily. It looks clear and feels smooth. If you have normal skin, you won't experience excessive dryness, oiliness, or sensitivity. At Skinkind, we offer numerous products and facial treatments for this skin type. If this is your skin type, we like to focus your facial treatments to target maintenance and prevention to keep fine lines and wrinkles at bay. Normal skin can sometimes feel a little more oily in the summertime, and dryer in the winter. So perhaps you get more deep cleansing treatments like Hydrapurge or Galvanic during the summer and winter you exfoliate and hydrate more with services like Hydrabrasion or o2 Hydrafusion.
Dry Skin: Dry skin often feels tight, flaky, or rough, especially after cleansing. It may appear dull and lackluster due to a lack of moisture. Dry skin can be caused by genetics, environmental factors, or skincare habits. If you are experiencing dry skin, we offer several clean, vegan and hydrating products to target your dry skin. We also offer several facial treatments to add hydration to your skin such as o2 Hydrafusion or Hydrapurge. One of our favorite cleansers for dry skin is our Coconut Sea Milk.
Oily Skin: Oily skin tends to produce excess oil, especially in the T-zone (forehead, nose, and chin). It may appear shiny, greasy, and prone to acne or enlarged pores. Oily skin can be caused by hormonal changes, genetics, or environmental factors. At Skinkind, we offer Face Reality skin care products as well as our Hydrapurge facial which purges your pores by combining Salicylic acid, a vortex tip and suction to perform a deep pore cleansing facial. This will help with your overproduction of oil and to target breakouts.
Combination Skin: Combination skin exhibits characteristics of both oily and dry skin. Typically, the T-zone is oily, while the cheeks may be normal or dry. Combination skin can be challenging to manage since different areas of the face require different skincare approaches. Our Hydrapurge facial not only targets oily skin but it also treats dryness by hydrating the skin. We also incorporate hyaluronic acid in our Hydrapurge facials which hydrates your skin.
Sensitive Skin: Sensitive skin is prone to redness, irritation, itching, and discomfort in response to various factors such as skincare products, weather changes, or environmental triggers. It may react negatively to certain ingredients or harsh treatments. At Skinkind, we understand sensitive skin. We use clean and vegan products with no parabens. We also recommend our LED facial which helps calm sensitive skin.
To determine your skin type, follow these steps:
Wash your face: Start with a gentle cleanser to remove any makeup, dirt, or impurities.
Pat dry: Gently pat your face, dry with a clean towel.
Observe your skin: Wait for about an hour without applying any skincare products. Pay attention to how your skin feels and looks.
Check for oiliness: If your skin feels oily, especially in the T-zone, you likely have oily or combination skin. If it feels dry and tight, you likely have dry skin.
Observe any areas of sensitivity: Note if your skin becomes red, itchy, or irritated easily, which could indicate sensitive skin.
Assess overall appearance: Consider whether your skin looks balanced, clear, and smooth (normal skin) or if you notice any specific concerns such as acne, dry patches, or excess shine.
